One of Germany’s Largest Floating Solar Plants Now Operates on LONGi Panels

In a stunning showcase of clean energy innovation, the second-largest floating solar PV system in Germany has just been completed — and it’s powered by LONGi modules, one of the most trusted brands in global photovoltaics.

Located over Waldmattensee in Lahr, Baden-Württemberg, this floating PV system spans an impressive 3 hectares — roughly the size of three football fields. A total of 13,000 solar panels, mounted on 750 buoyant floating platforms, now generate clean electricity above the lake’s surface. The floating system provides renewable power for Vogel-Bau GmbH, the project’s investor, with any excess energy flowing directly into the public grid.

What makes this installation particularly striking is not only its technical scale, but also its symbolism: just a hundred meters away, swimmers enjoy a public bathing area — a powerful image showing that solar energy is both safe and sustainable, even in public recreation zones.
