BYD Energy Storage Signs World’s Largest 12.5 GWh Grid-Scale Battery Project in Saudi Arabia
BYD Energy Storage, a global leader in energy storage solutions, has officially signed contracts with the Saudi Electricity Company for the world’s largest grid-scale battery storage project with a capacity of 12.5 GWh. When combined with the previously delivered 2.6 GWh project, the total partnership now amounts to an extraordinary 15.1 GWh of energy storage capacity.
This milestone marks a new global record and demonstrates BYD’s leadership in delivering ultra-large-scale energy storage systems (BESS) to support energy transition and grid stability worldwide.
Powering Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030
Saudi Arabia has set ambitious targets to achieve a 50% renewable energy mix by 2030 as part of its Vision 2030 strategy. The new BYD projects will be installed across five sites, integrating directly into the national transmission network.
