Greentech Renewables and Qcells Launch Florida’s First Solar Panel Recycling Drop-Off Sites
A major step toward a circular solar economy is underway in Florida, as Qcells’ new recycling division, EcoRecycle, partners with Greentech Renewables to establish two public solar panel collection hubs. The new drop-off locations — at Greentech’s Tampa and Palmetto branches — will accept decommissioned, damaged, or end-of-life solar panels from both solar professionals and homeowners.
Qcells says these sites will serve as the first of many public collection hubs across Florida and the broader Southeast. As the company expands EcoRecycle’s recycling facilities and builds out its nationwide partner network, these locations will become prototypes for a national solar recycling infrastructure. With its flagship facility in White, Georgia, capable of processing an estimated 500,000 panels per year, Qcells is positioning EcoRecycle as the backbone of a scalable, U.S-based recycling ecosystem.
Greentech Renewables says its distribution footprint will help streamline access to end-of-life recycling solutions.
“With solar distribution centers strategically located across Florida, Greentech Renewables is making it easier for customers of all sizes to participate in this recycling initiative and advance the circular solar economy,” said Hunter David of Greentech Renewables.
Building the First Truly Circular Solar Economy in the U.S.
The collaboration aims to close the loop on solar modules by ensuring that valuable materials can be recovered and reintroduced into domestic manufacturing. Using proprietary high-purity separation technology, EcoRecycle will extract materials including:
-
Glass
-
Aluminum
-
Copper
-
Silver
These recovered resources will be reintegrated into Qcells’ U.S-based production lines, significantly reducing carbon emissions, shrinking reliance on imported materials, and strengthening American clean-energy supply chains.
According to Kelly Weger, Senior Director of Sustainability at Qcells:
“Effectively managing solar panel waste is essential to the health of the clean energy transition. Through this collaboration, we are offering customers and communities a no-landfill, truly circular solution that supports their sustainability goals while driving progress for the entire industry.”
A Scalable Recycling Model for the Next Generation of Solar
As the U.S. solar market grows — and as early-generation panels approach end of life — the need for accessible, standardized recycling pathways is becoming increasingly urgent. The Florida drop-off hubs mark an important first step toward creating a network of collection points nationwide.
By combining Greentech Renewables’ distribution reach with EcoRecycle’s high-capacity recycling technology, the industry is moving closer to a fully circular, low-carbon manufacturing model, ensuring that solar materials stay in use for decades rather than ending up in landfills.
For installers, asset owners and homeowners, the initiative creates a simple way to responsibly manage solar waste — while supporting the next generation of domestic solar innovation.
